Rajasthan: FAIMA supports doctors' protest against Right to Health Bill

Doctors at Rajasthan's private hospitals and nursing homes are protesting against the proposed Right to Health Bill. The protesting doctors have suspended their services and urged the state government to not implement the RTH. Doctors association Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has come in support of the protesting doctors and released an official statement.

FAIMA also demanded punishment for the police officers who ordered an attack on doctors.

The association highlighted the issues in the proposed bill and said that while the private doctors association has given many representatives and suggestions but no appropriate steps have been taken.

"A key point in the bill is that no medical facility can deny a patient 'emergency care, whether it is private or government. However, the bill does not define the 'emergency condition' or how private hospitals will become compensated for treatment costs. Private doctors and private medical institutions are concerned that the bill will grant tremendous authority to designated government officials to enter their premises and intimidate them," reads FAIMA's statement.

"Federation of All India Medical Association strongly condemns the brutal attack and stands in full support to the doctors of Rajasthan to withdraw the RTH bill with immediate effect," added FAIMA.

The Association of Resident Doctors at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) have also supported the protest.
