Rajasthan native alleges ragging at Odisha's Puri medical college
Reports of ragging emerged from Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri of Odisha where a first-year MBBS student has allegedly been ragged by seniors.
A first year MBBS student of Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri complained about ragging by seniors where some students of the second year forcibly shaved off his beard and misbehaved with him. The Dean of the medical college has lodged a complaint at Penthakata Marine police station after the student's complaint. An investigation has been initiated into the ragging allegation.
Maya Padhi, dean and principal of the college said, "The first year MBBS student alleged that he faced ragging from some seniors," as reported by TOI.
"We can say more about the incident only after the inquiry is over. According to the standard protocol, we lodged a complaint with the local police," added the dean.
Despite NMC's strict stand against ragging, such incidents are being reported from medical colleges across the country. One of such case is of Jadavpur University where a student allegedly died due to the ragging. The probe is going on in that case also.
In 2021, NMC directed all medical colleges to take action as per the regulations against those found guilty of actively or passively participating in ragging and abetting ragging.
The Anti-Ragging Committee should include the Head of the Institution, representatives of faculty members, representatives of parents, representatives of students belonging to the freshers' category, representatives of non-teaching staff, representatives of senior students, representatives of civil and police administration, representatives of local media, and Non-Government Organizations involved in youth activities, said NMC.
