NEET PG Latest News and Updates

NEET PG Counselling 2024: The Indian Medical Association’s Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) has urged Union Health Minister JP Nadda to reduce NEET PG 2024 cutoff to fill vacant postgraduate seats. Through an official letter, IMA JDN has requested the health minister to address the matter of grave concern i.e. following the All India Quota (AIQ) seats after NEET PG 2024 round 2 counselling processes; a significant number of PG medical seats remain unfilled across the country.

The doctor association highlighted that even after extensive efforts by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), MD/ MS seats across the country have not been filled due to the higher NEET PG cutoff 2024. As a result, vacant seats would translate to the underutilisation of valuable resources in the Indian healthcare system and restrict the development of a progressive medical workforce.

"In light of the current scenario, we earnestly request your esteemed office to consider reducing the cut-off marks for NEET PG 2024. This measure would ensure that eligible and competent candidates get an opportunity to secure these seats, thereby strengthening the healthcare delivery system in India. Additionally, it would prevent the wastage of precious educational resources and alleviate the existing shortage of specialists in various medical fields." The official notification reads.

Expected Benefits of Reducing NEET PG 2024 Cutoff

The association highlighted that a reduction in the NEET PG cut-off marks will:

1. Assure optimal utilization of available PG medical seats.

2. Address the discrepancy between the demand for specialized healthcare services and the qualified professionals.

3. Provide aspirants one more chance to follow their desired career paths, fostering talent development.
