SC rejects Dental College's plea for extension of deadline for BDS admissions

The top court of the country has dismissed a plea filed by a Dental College seeking an extension of the admissions deadline to the BDS UG course. The college was seeking direction to the Dental Council of India and the Union of India for an extension of the deadline.

A bench comprising Justice Abdul Nazeer and Justice PS Narasimha said, "Last moment decisions create a lot of disharmony."

The college is not new, said the petitioner's advocate

The bench said, "The counselling is also over. Those are running institutions, yours is a new institution. You've been given a new phase of life," as reported by Live Law.

However, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the college is not new and it has been running since 2000 and was shut down because of demonetisation and financial problems for three years.

"From February we've been writing to them, if Union of India sits on it for three months and does nothing, why should I suffer? Procrastination from the state should not lead to these 100 seats going to waste." submitted the counsel.

"Next year you can try. There's already a two years gap. It's a longish thing. In a running college, it would be a different matter, in your case it's different. Last moment decisions create a lot of disharmony," the bench replied.
