TN: NEET aspirant, father commit suicide; CM Stalin assures NEET Will Be Scrapped

In yet another suicide case of NEET aspirant in Tamil Nadu, a 19-year-old medical aspirant committed suicide after he failed to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) twice. Just after two days of this tragic incident, his father also killed himself.

The victim, Jagadeeswaran, was found hanging in his room in the city’s Chromepet area on August 12. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police found no suicide note. However, his father, Selvasekar, had blamed the NEET administration for his son's death, before tragically hanging himself on Monday.

After the suicides of son-father duo, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin appealed to the NEET aspirants of the state to not take such extreme steps but face life with self-confidence.

Mr Stalin claimed that in a few months, when the political change takes place, then the NEET barriers will come crashing down.

"Then, all those who say 'I will not sign' will disappear," the Chief Minister said apparently referring to Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi's remarks against the state's anti-NEET bill, as reported by NDTV.

"I offer my deepest condolences on the demise of student Jagatheeswaran and his father Selvasekhar (who also allegedly died by suicide). Let their deaths be the last on the altar of NEET," Mr Stalin said in a statement.
