TN to set up Dr Kalaignar Centenary Medical Research Centre at INR 100 cr

State health minister Ma Subramanian said that the Tamil Nadu government has planned to set up the Dr Kalaignar Centenary Medical Research Centre at an outlay of INR 100 crore in the city.
The public works department is engaged in preparing a project report for the facility that would be set up on the campus of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Guindy, said the minister, as reported by Money Control.
Chief Minister M K Stalin would take part in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed facility, Subramanian, also the Pro-Chancellor of the University, said.
"(The late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi) Kalaignar rose to the level of Chief Minister after winning the 1967 and later in 1971 polls by contesting from the Saidapet constituency. I am happy to announce that a centenary medical research facility in his name would be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore at the campus of the Dr MGR Medical University," he told reporters.
Mr. Subramanian announced this during the special registration camp for beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). The camps were held in four places, including wards 168, 169, 171, and 172.
While the previous government paid a premium of INR 699 per beneficiary, the current one has raised it to INR 849, and the insurance limit has also been raised from INR 2 lakh to INR 5 lakh. Also, the government had increased the number of treatment methods from the earlier 1,450 to 1,513, the Minister added, as reported by The Hindu.
