Trichy, Tamil Nadu, to get new govt Siddha medical college, promises minister

KN Nehru, Minister for municipal administration has assured to set up a government Siddha medical college in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

While inaugurating a Siddha exhibition on the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH), KN Nehru, Minister for municipal administration has promised to establish a government Siddha medical college in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

The three-day event was organised by the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy on account of Siddha Day to mark the birth star 'Ayilyam' of Siddhar Agasthiyar. It will end by December 23 on the day of 'Ayilyam' star.

"Efforts will be taken to have the announcement about the government Siddha medical college in Trichy in the governor's speech in the assembly on January 5 or it will be mentioned in the demands for the grants of the family welfare department," said Nehru, as reported by TOI.

The ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India (GOI), has approved the celebration.

During the ongoing pandemic, AYUSH treatment has gained immense popularity and acceptance due to its holistic way of treatment that increases the immunity of the body. The Ministry of AYUSH is also launching many projects in several states. Recently, many projects were announced in Uttarakhand. 

Bihar government is also all geared up for strengthening these Indian systems of medical practices. Recently, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated three days Ayurveda festival 2021 to promote AYUSH in Bihar and also announced to restart of Ayurveda colleges in the state that are closed.
