Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the union budget 2023 today, February 1, 2023, and for the healthcare sector, she has announced 157 new nursing colleges to be established in co-locations with the existing 157 medical colleges established since 2014 and a new programme for research & innovation in pharmaceuticals.

The union budget 2023 is announced today, February 1, 2023, by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She announced 157 new nursing colleges will be established in co-locations with the existing 157 medical colleges established since 2014.

Also, a new programme for research & innovation in pharmaceuticals will be taken up through Centres of Excellence. Dedicated multi-disciplinary courses for medical devices will be supported in the existing institutions to skill the manpower in future medical technologies. 

Facilities in the select ICMR labs will be made available for research by public & private medical college faculty and private sector R&D teams for encouraging collaborative research and innovation.

Finance Minister announced the PM Programme For Restoration Awareness Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM) will be launched to incentivise States & Union Territories to promote alternative fertilizers and balanced use of chemical fertilizers.

A mission to eliminate sickle cell anaemia by 2047 will be launched. It will entail awareness creation, universal screening of 7 crore people in the age group 0 to 40 years in affected tribal areas & counselling through collaborative efforts, she added.

"The limit of INR 3 lakhs for tax exemption on Leave Encashment limit raised to INR 25 lakhs. We are also making the new income tax regime the default tax regime however, citizens will continue to have the option to avail the benefits of the old tax regime," she said.
