Union Budget 2024: Karnataka CM urges FM to set up AIIMS Raichur

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the interim budget on February 1, 2024. 

While the interim budget will be announced by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tomorrow, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to the Finance Minister requesting her to include a state’s proposal in the budget for the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raichur district.

“Raipur has been declared as ‘Aspiration District’ by the Centre and special status has been granted to the district in accordance with Article 371 (J) of the Constitution,” reads the CM letter, as reported by TOI.

“Raipur is an aspirational district, coming under Kalyana Karnataka region, whree healthcare, education and per capita income levels are still subpar as compared to the other regions of Karnataka. Raichur district is in an urgent need to establish a high-quality referral medical centre. The state government, on consideration of possible locations, is of the view that Raichur is the most suitable place to establish an AIIMS. It would therefore, request you to include the establishment of AIIMS at Raichur in the forthcoming Budget of 2024-25,” added CM’s letter, as reported by udayavani.

The Chief Minister has also enclosed a copy of his letter dated June 17, 2023 addressed to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh L Mandaviya, in this regard.

Union Budget 2024: More Details

Tomorrow's interim budget 2024 marks Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's sixth budget. Ahead of the budget, Nirmala Sitharaman said that there may not be any big announcements.

"India rising amid global slowdown, Ayushman Bharat saved 3.5 lakh crore for poor", said President Droupadi Murmu during the Budget Session today.
