Uttar Pradesh: Glocal Medical College students seek President's nod for Euthanasia
As many as 12 students of Glocal Medical College have written to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking permission for euthanasia as the Medical Council of India (MCI) debarred the institute and ordered the suspension of classes.
At a time when Uttar Pradesh is on a spree of opening new medical colleges in the state to strengthen the state's health infrastructure, here comes the news from the state where 12 students of Glocal Medical College are seeking President Ram Nath Kovind's nod for euthanasia, the practice to end once life intentionally to relieve suffering and pain.
As many as 66 students of the college have alleged that they got admission to the Glocal Medical College after clearing NEET in 2016 and after just three months of getting the admission the Medical Council of India (MCI) had debarred the institute and ordered the suspension of their classes.
The students have reportedly said that they had been kept in dark about this by the college management and the classes were continued for five years. As per the Hindustan Times report, the students have said that after exercising all possible options including moving to Allahabad High Court, the students are left with no other choice and seek the President's permission for euthanasia.
Out of these 66 students, 12 have written to the President and the names of some of these students are Rahul Raj, Aishwarya, Arvind Raj, Shivani Rana, Vibhor, Rizwan, Sadaf, Samia, Vignesh, and Shivam Verma.
The college vice-chancellor Akeel Ahmed has responded that the college wants these 66 students to complete their degree and it was on the appeal of these students that the MCI cancelled the No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted to the college.
“They filed a writ petition in the high court, and then in the Supreme Court. On both occasions, the plea was dismissed. Despite this, we continue to stand with our students,” Ahmed said.
