China has announced an updated visa application procedure to ease the Covid-19 induced visa ban, this gives hope to many Indian medical students pursuing medical courses from China who were stuck in India after they came back in 2020 due to the initial Covid-19 outbreak.
China is finally opening its doors for Indian students to return and resume their studies. As per the updated visa application procedures, the students can apply for visas to return to China from August 24 onwards.
Chinese ambassador to India Sun Weidong had recently said that the first batch of Indian students will return soon to China. Sun Weidong also advised the students to track the Embassy updates for details on resumptions of studies in China.
Obstacles are still there for the students
As per reports, nearly 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine were waiting for the visa restrictions to ease. However, even after the ease, there are still obstacles remaining for these students including permission from their universities.
India had been repeatedly asking China to allow these students to return to their universities, and now finally, the procedure is updated. Before India, China also revised the requirements for Pakistan and Afghanistan nationals.
The medical students who returned from China and Ukraine due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war have been demanding to be accommodated in Indian medical colleges and recently the National Medical Commission (NMC) has also released FAQs on these students' queries which states that for Foreign Medical Students covered under Screening Test Regulations, 2002, there is no clause regarding transfer in the Regulations.
