Will ensure no TN medical college loses recognition: Ma Subramanian

After last month, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board withdrew recognition of three Tamil Nadu run medical colleges, now the health minister Ma Subramanian said that the state will ensure that no state-run medical college loses its recognition.

Along with these three medical colleges, NMC also withdrew recognition of as many as 40 others for deficiencies in biometric attendance and inadequate CCTV cameras. It means that for around 500 MBBS seats in these colleges, there won't be any admissions. However, the board has allowed an appeal against the order, as reported by TOI.

After the inauguration of the construction of a park at Saidapet, he said, "While deans and officials from the directorate of medical education have gone on an appeal against the UG board's decision, the health secretary and I will meet Union ministers in Delhi and inform him that withdrawal of recognition is too big a punishment for such an issue."

The National Medical Commission’s decision to withdraw recognition from a historic medical college for minor deficiencies is unacceptable, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian has said.

The NMC has cited the non-implementation of the biometric system of attendance and the poor use of CCTV cameras as defects in the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital. That the NMC is using such trivial issues to undermine the service rendered by the medical college is a matter of concern, he said.

“After the NMC came for inspection, we said the deficiencies would be rectified. The DME and various medical officers have gone to Delhi to meet the officials concerned,” the Minister said, as reported by The Hindu.
