Will TN implement NMC guidelines on fees in private medical colleges, asks BJP
TN BJP President K Annamalai has asked the government about whether it would take steps to implement recent guidelines of NMC that fees in 50% seats of private medical colleges should be on a par with government medical colleges.
Recently, National Medical Commission (NMC) had released the guidelines stating that 50% of the seats in the private medical college and deemed universities must be at par with the fee in the government medical colleges of that particular state & UT. Now, the Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has asked the state government whether the TN government would take steps to implement these guidelines.
He highlighted the issue that till now poor students from the rural areas who got admission to the private medical colleges through quota were unable to join the courses due to the high fees charged by these colleges, as reported by The Hindu.
While requesting the government to implement the guidelines, he asked “Now, under the new guidelines, poor students need to pay ₹13,610 alone in private medical colleges. Students and parents are waiting eagerly to see if Tamil Nadu will implement the guidelines. It will be a setback to private medical colleges in terms of their profit but will be of immense benefit to students. What action is the Tamil Nadu government going to take?”
NMC guidelines on fees of private medical colleges
The guidelines say, "The benefit of this fee structure would be first made available to those candidates who have availed government quota seats but limited to the extent of 50% of the total sanctioned strength of the respective medical college/deemed university. However, if the government quota seats are less than 50% of total sanctioned seats, the remaining candidates would avail the benefit of a fee equivalent to the government medical college fees, based purely on the merit."
