Mohali medical college makes arrangements to deal with possible third wave

Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences has set up a 100-bed makeshift hospital in the college campus to deal with the possible third wave of coronavirus pandemic.

With the coming of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, the chances of a third wave have even more increased. Amid the current scenario, medical colleges are also preparing themselves to deal with an increased number of cases if any third wave hits the country.

As per reports, Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences in Phase 6 has set up a 100-bed makeshift hospital inside the college premises and this has increased the total bed capacity of the hospital to 330.

Dr Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal of the medical college, said, “The main motive of the temporary hospital is to provide timely treatment and ramp up the bed capacity in the district. At present, we are running a vaccination centre in the makeshift hospital and soon, we will be setting up Covid skill lab,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

She also said that four medical oxygen plants of 1,000 LPM in the medical college are all functional. As per reports, the district has witnessed a slight increase in Covid 19 cases in the last four weeks.

Recently, the Government of Punjab had tweeted, "Presiding over 15th meeting of Board of management of AIMS Mohali, Cabinet Minister @Raj_Verka has directed to expedite the remaining work of Dr B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) so that the classes in this institute could be started at the specific time."
