Higher and Technical Education Ministry Uday Samant has announced that Mumbai University will start the new library building on March 15. The Minister held a meeting with the officials of the University and BMC to understand the status of different developmental plan works for the Kalina campus which is incomplete. He also spoke about completing the university’s development plan on priority which has to be done in association with the MMRDA.
Mumbai University: New hostel for international students
A nodal officer has also been appointed from BMC to ensure rapid movement on projects. This includes a hostel for international students and another one for girls. The Minister also instructed the university administration to begin paying minimum wage for contractual employees in varsity, especially those in the security and cleaning department who are currently paid measly salaries.
The move comes after last week, the minister had paid a visit to the Jawaharlal Nehru Library of MU in Kalina campus, which has come under the scanner for its poor condition, putting books and lives of students in danger.
Mumbai University Exams 2022: Mandatory to be conducted offline
Higher and Technical Education Minister also announced that it is mandatory for Mumbai University to conduct the offline exams. It must be noted that Mumbai University is all set to hold semester exams. Mumbai University had earlier announced that it will conduct exams in online mode for all the traditional courses. Mumbai University also announced that it will conduct the exams for the professional courses including Engineering, Law, Pharmacy in offline mode. However, with this announcement by the Minister, University is likely to hold all exams in offline mode only, including those who were set to be conducted in online mode earlier.
