Students Demand Postponing NEET 2022

NEET 2022 dates have been announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on April 6, after a long wait and anticipation among students. As reported earlier, NEET 2022 will be held on July 17. Earlier, it was speculated to be conducted in the third or fourth week of June, but the exam was finally scheduled in July keeping mind the Board and State Board exams which will be concluded by June end. While the announcement of the exam date has brought solace to majority of the NEET 2022 aspirants, there are a large number of students who are unhappy with the date. They have taken to the social media platforms to demand the postponement of NEET 2022. The hashtags such as #postponeneetug2022 and #rescheduleneet2022 and the likes are trending on Twitter and other social media platforms. Sample some such tweets below:

Coincidentally, NTA has announced the deferment of JEE Main exam on the same date as that of the NEET 2022 notification. This has further triggered aspirants to ask for rescheduling NEET 2022.

Why Students are Demanding Postponement of NEET 2022

There are a number of reasons which have led the aspirants to demand to defer the exam date of NEET 2022. Some such reasons are given below:

Less time for preparation for NEET Droppers: The NEET 2021 counselling process has been stretched till April. Last year’s candidates who could not get a coveted seat would be appearing for NEET this year too. With approximately three months to go for the exam, it would not be sufficient for them to prepare properly, which would lower their chance of success this year too.

Board exams concluding in June and July: Several national or state Board exams will conclude in June or July which would leave the NEET takers with hardly a month to focus on NEET. Serious aspirants require more time to prepare themselves for the exam.

Students appearing in other entrance exams:A number of NEET aspirants also plan to appear for other competitive entrance exams such as CUET, JEE, NEST, IISER, to name a few. The exam dates are scheduled around July which would create a conflict with the dates and preparation methods. To avoid this, NEET aspirants are urging for postponing the exam date by a month or two.

NEET held once a year: Despite the exam authorities mulling the idea of conducting NEET twice a year, NEET 2022 will be conducted once. This has doused the ray of hope among students to get multiple opportunities to crack the highly competitive test. Hence, they deserve at least a few months more to prepare better and crack the exam.

Overall delay in academic season: For the last two years, there has been a delay across education institutes and courses including MBBS. Early conduct in NEET would cause a lack of balance among students who faced a delayed session in school, as well as counselling (for retakers).

So far, NTA has not responded to these requests vis-a-vis the demands of the NEET 2022 aspirants. The application process started on April 6 and it will end on May 6. The rest of the important dates such as the application correction window, release of the admit card, answer key and result have not been announced yet.
