NEET Upper Age Limit Case: SC heard the plea today and scheduled the next hearing for Feb 25
Supreme Court has today heard the plea challenging the upper-age limit for the NEET exam and scheduled the matter for the next hearing on February 25.
The case related to the upper age limit for the NEET exam is pending since 2018 without any final decision and today Supreme Court has heard the plea and scheduled it for the next hearing on February 25.
The plea challenges the upper-age limit of 25 years for the general category and 30 years for the SC/ST category candidates appearing for the NEET examination.
The respondent's counsel Gaurav Sharma has said in the court that the requirement of two years continuous study of 11th and 12th was always there and the affidavits filed by the petitioners clearly show that they were aware of 11th and 12th class. In the present case, students passed 12th but did not clear 11th, as reported by Bar and Bench.
Sr Adv Surendra K Gangele for the petitioner has said, "Only state of MP wanted the 11th class marks, rest all other states like UP etc only wanted the 12th class marks. states like UP etc do not bar private candidates from NEET counselling. This is what our Grievance is."
The case is going in the Supreme Court as one student had raised a grievance regarding the upper age limit for appearing in the NEET entrance examination in the year 2017 and it was decided that the upper age limit of the unreserved category will be fixed to 25 years and that of the reserved category, it will be 30 years from 2018 to 2019 academic year. However, many NEET candidates criticised the decision especially the ones who were above the recommended age and now the case is pending in the Supreme Court and the next hearing is on February 25.
