NIT Hamirpur reports 42 COVID cases
A total of 53 people have tested positive for the disease in Hamirpur, of them, 42 are from NIT Hamirpur. With this, the total number of Covid cases in the district has increased to 99.
Forty-two students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur have tested positive for COVID-19, a district official said. He said a total of 53 people have tested positive for the disease in Hamirpur, of them, 42 are from NIT Hamirpur. With this, the total number of Covid cases in the district has increased to 99.
The number of total confirmed cases in the district has risen to 18,170, and the count of recoveries as at 17,762, an official added. NIT Hamirpur Director Prof Lalit Awasthi said most of the infected students had taken part in an NCC camp held recently, and there is a possibility that the infected students have contracted the virus from there. All infected students have isolated within the premises, he added.
A spokesperson of the health department said other students and staff of NIT Hamirpur would be tested to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, 67 students at the Madras Institute of Technology, one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University, in Chromepet, Chennai, have tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. Most of the students are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. The institution will remain shut for seven days in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases.
More than 50 persons, including students and a faculty member, have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati since December 31, 2021. An official of the institute said according to a government order, no student will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until further notice. IIT Kharagpur has also reported 60 COVID cases. Out of them, 40 are students and researchers.
