The National Law University (NLU) and Delhi Police have signed an MoU to provide comprehensive legal education at all levels of basic police training.
To provide legal knowledge to the police force personnel, Delhi Police has partnered with National Law University (NLU) by signing an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) as confirmed by the official statement.
NLU, Delhi Vice Chancellor Srikrishna Deva Rao and Delhi Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana have signed the MoU at police headquarters.
The NLU Delhi notification reads, "The partnership aims to disseminate legal knowledge and processes and relevant law-oriented learning among police personnel through lectures, seminars, workshops, role plays and other practical methods."
"NLU Delhi faculty will undertake courses on the Constitution of India, Code of Criminal Procedures, Indian Evidence Act, Indian Penal Code and important Minor Acts like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Arms Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Information Technology Act, Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act etc," added the notification.
NLU Delhi has designed modules of legal subjects for the forces at different levels including sub-inspectors and Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) officers. Moreover, it will conduct refresher courses for in-service officers and promotion courses for assistant sub inspectors/sub inspectors. E-learning modules have also been created on various law subjects.
Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said, "Seventy per cent of our battle in investigation is fought in the court of law and strong legal foundation is very significant for securing conviction in any case."
"Keeping this in mind, investigation has been separated from other law and order duties and a separate wing has been dedicated for this at police station level," he added, as reported by Indian Express.
NLU Delhi tweet regarding this alliance reads, "NLUD & @DelhiPolice have signed an MoU. Through this partnership, NLUD will provide law-oriented learning & legal training for police officials through specially designed modules. NLUD looks forward to a meaningful engagement with @DelhiPolice"
