National Medical Council has issued strict guidelines for medical colleges to prevent and eradicate any ragging incident inside the campus.

To control and prevent the ragging cases in medical colleges of India, National Medical Council (NMC) has released guidelines. NMC has directed the institutes to take action as per the regulations against those found guilty of actively or passively participating in ragging and abetting ragging.

NMC Latest Guidelines for Ragging

The medical institute needs to do the following to prevent and eradicate ragging from their campuses:

  • All the colleges' public notifications declared through any media like print or audiovisual must provide the message that ragging is a serious offence, it is prohibited and anyone found guilty will be punished.
  • All the medical examination conducting bodies like the National Testing Agency (NTA), National Board of Examinations (NBE), Medical Counseling Committee (MCC), and National Exit Test (NExT) must include ragging regulations in their Information Bulletin.
  • The Head of the medical college must constitute Anti-Ragging Squads and Anti-Ragging Committees and other related committees.
  • The Anti-Ragging Committee should include the Head of the Institution, representatives of faculty members, representatives of parents, representatives of students belonging to the freshers' category, representatives of non-teaching staff, representatives of senior students, representatives of civil and police administration, representatives of local media, and Non-Government Organizations involved in youth activities.
  • The Anti-Ragging Committee must monitor anti-ragging activities in the college and ensure that no ragging incidents are happening in the college. They also need to supervise Anti-Ragging Squads' activities, do an investigation of any reported incidents and make suggestions for preventing and prohibiting ragging.
  • The colleges must ensure that the Anti-ragging helpline number and details of the control room should be prominently displayed to freshers.
  • The colleges are also asked to provide the details of the dates of admission and addresses of privately managed hostels or lodges where students stay once they are enrolled in the medical colleges.
