NMC seeks report on medical students' suicides, working hours in last 5 years
NMC has asked medical colleges to submit detailed reports of students who committed suicide during the past five years.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked the medical colleges to submit a detailed report on the number of students who have committed suicide during the last 5 years, the list must be sent department-wise in respect of PG students.
NMC has also asked for details about the number of students who have left the college/institute during the last 5 years and details regarding the working hours and weekly off given to students. The information must be sent by October 7, 2022.
NMC has constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee with Dr Aruna V Vanikar, President, UGMEB as the chairperson of the committee. Anti-Ragging Committee in its first meeting on September 27, reviewed the ragging complaints received from the medical students/parents of the medical students and has taken a serious view on the increasing incidents of ragging and its consequences leading to the suicidal tendency among the students.
To facilitate the medical students to lodge complaints with NMC also in addition to the concerned colleges/institutes following dedicated email id has been created - antiragging@nmc.org.in.
"All the colleges are requested to give wide publicity by publishing the same on website and displaying on the prominent places like a hostel, mess, classroom, library, lecture hall, common room etc. A compliance report in this regard may kindly be sent," reads the official notification.
"Although all incidents of suicide and suicidal tendency are not linked to ragging but in many cases the incidents of suicide have been linked to ragging. Therefore, the committee has decided that all the colleges should submit these information for the last five years," added the notification.
