The new competency based medical education for undergraduate course curriculum is to be implemented with the objective of covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a circular about the implementation of a new Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) for the undergraduate course curriculum. 

The notification said that the new CBME for the undergraduate course curriculum was discussed in detail in the 6th meeting of NMC which was conducted on March 24, 2022, in New Delhi. After detailed discussion and deliberation in the meeting, it was unanimously decided to implement new CBME for UG Course Curriculum from the 2021-22 batch of MBBS.

NMC has directed all state governments/UTs, universities and medical colleges/institutes to take immediate necessary steps to implement the new curriculum.

The NMC notification reads, "All Registrars of the University and the Deans/Principals of the medical college are requested to complete the required formalities with regard to amalgamation of old and new batch of MBBS students in the CBME Course Curriculum on priority."

Objective is to cover Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor aspects

As per NMC notification, the new CBME course curriculum is being implemented with the aim of covering all three domains of learning including cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.

The course curriculum which was introduced in August 2019 enriches the medical student with a sound base and balanced approach to the overall aspect with the introduction of foundation courses including yoga, meditation, family adoption programme, local language adaptation and skills, said the notification.
