PMC's Women and Child welfare committee has proposed setting up a nursing college and the members will soon hold a meeting.
After initiating the efforts for a medical college, now PMC's (Pune Municipal Corporation) Women and Child welfare committee members have proposed setting up a nursing college and they soon will hold a meeting for the same.
In the proposed nursing institute, nearly 200 students will be trained.
TOI quoted a member of the committee, “We have seen how the health system collapsed during the pandemic. Though the administration could control the pandemic, it took months of preparation. Many people lost their lives in this period."
As per the committee members, with already a civic-run medical institution being set up, an attached nursing college will strengthen the civic health infrastructure as it will provide trained staff to the health department.
PMC's health departments are running Kamla Nehru general hospital and Naidu Hospital. The health department runs 52 out-patient departments (OPDs), 18 maternity homes and two mobile hospitals. The municipal medical college will start operating soon, as confirmed by the PMC officials. The civic body is conducting walk-in interviews for hiring professors.
Meanwhile, Bharatratna Atal Bihari Medical College has got the final approval and the admission process for nearly 100 students will start in December. The NMC (National Medical Commission) granted the final approval once their team visited Pune to check the college preparations and recommended a few changes. The approval came only after the changes were incorporated.
