An FIR has been lodged against the college chairperson and the principal for failing to restrain many students, who went back homes after the tests, District Collector Saroj Kumar Sethi said.

A college in Odisha's Dhenkanal district has reported that 53 students on campus have tested positive for COVID-19. With the large number of students testing positive, the municipal administration has now sealed the Saikrupa Residential College at Kunjakanta in Dhenkanal town, around 60 km northwest of Bhubaneswar, for an indefinite period.

A few days back, four students at a hostel in Kunjakanta area had tested positive for COVID-19. Following that, the test was carried out for other students too who were residing in the same hostel. 33 students tested positive and the patients were moved to isolation. Later, 16 more students returned positive, taking the total to 53, according to the official.

An FIR has been lodged against the college chairperson and the principal for failing to restrain many students, who went back homes after the tests, District Collector Saroj Kumar Sethi said. The Kunjakanta ward has been declared as a micro-containment zone for 10 days, he added. The collector has issued directions to restrict social gatherings like weddings to 100, strictly implement night curfew, and ensure compliance with Covid protocols like wearing masks and social distancing at public places.

Meanwhile, at least  380 passengers from Omicron 'at-risk' countries have arrived in Odisha in just two days, as per the reports. While 224 persons returned to Odisha on November 28, 156 persons arrived in the state on November 29, said state Public Health director Nirnajan Mishra.

"Till now, we have received this much data from the concerned authority. We have shared the details of the travellers with the district administrations for further follow up action," he said.
