Online admission up by 170%; will increase further with Digital University: UGC Chairman
UGC Chairman has stated that with online education at an affordable cost, students can access high-quality education to become skilful and knowledgeable.
Enrollment in online courses has gone up by 170 percent in 2022, while there is an increase in distance learning by 42 percent. University Grants Commission Chairman has said that online enrollment will increase more with the launch of National Digital University.
UGC Chairman, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has said that Online programmes provide a window of opportunity to many students who are unable to join physically in a college or University. “There is a steady increase in the number of enrolments in online programmes,” he said.
Jagadesh Kumar citing a ToI report stated that the enrolment for online education is up 170% in 2022, and that distance learning has gone up by 42%.
He writes: “However, this will pick up further once we announce the National Digital University together with flexible online education regulations.”
Talking about taking advantage of digital technologies, Kumar writes: “We need to take advantage of modern digital technologies to prepare engaging digital content and reach out to students using growing internet availability. At an affordable cost, students can access high-quality education to become skilful and knowledgable.”
“This will enable the students to become more employable in the emerging job market and has the added advantage of increasing the gross enrollment ratio,” UGC Chairman writes.
