The Osmania University's new girls hostel was inaugurated by the OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. D Ravinder. The hostel is located near the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE).
Considering the rise in the number of girl students joining several courses in the Osmania University college every year, the university administration has now opened a new 500-bed centenary hostel for girls. The Osmania University's new girls hostel was inaugurated by the OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. D Ravinder. The hostel is located near the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE). The hostel which was built at a cost of Rs.37.5 crore from the University and RUSA funds has reading rooms, a spacious dining hall and a state-of-the-art kitchen.
The hostel for girl students was warranted as the University has seen a substantial increase in the intake of girls in various colleges. The existing hostels were overcrowded, hence the initiative, the OU said. Also, the groundbreaking ceremony was performed for the construction of a separate girls’ swimming pool of international standards with the support of the Khelo India programme.
OU Registrar, Prof. P Laxminarayana, OSD to VC, Prof. B Reddya Naik, CPWD Chief Engineer, NN SS Rao, and university senior officials were also present.
Earlier, the Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Home Minister Mahmood Ali have inaugurated a new boys hostel at Saifabad for students of Osmania University PG College of Science at a cost of Rs 11 crore. About 108 rooms have been constructed in the G Plus three-storey building that can accommodate 300 students. Along with this, the Ministers also inaugurated two libraries at a cost of Rs 1 crore each, in Medchal Malkajgiri District. While speaking on the occasion, the education minister said that the development works in the education sector are a part of free KG to PG education in the state.
