Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of a sports University in Salwa Village of Sardhana area in Uttar Pradesh on January 2. The preparation for the inauguration has already been started for the same.
Meerut Divisional Commissioner Surendra Singh chaired a meeting in which he discussed the necessary arrangements to be made for the event with the police and district officials in attendance. After laying the foundation stone, some beneficiaries of the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, among others are expected to be felicitated by PM Modi.

The Commissioner gave directions about various aspects like helipad, parking, alternate traffic arrangements, security cordoning and issuing of passes for the programme. The meeting was attended by Meerut District Magistrate K Balaji, Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chaudhary, and other senior officials.

Earlier, the Centre has announced that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to Tamil Nadu after DMK's (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) MK Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state will witness the opening of as many as 11 new medical colleges in the state. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, will also attend the event on January 12 in Virudhunagar.

Under the Central government's scheme to create medical colleges affiliated to existing referral and district hospitals, the former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government was successful in getting medical colleges awarded to the state. To build each of these medical colleges, the funding will be divided between the Union and state government in the ratio 60:40.

A total of 1,450 MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats are approved in these 11 new government medical colleges.
