PMYASASVI Scheme: 'Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme For Vibrant India for OBC and Others' popularly known as "PM Yashasvi" launched by the Central Government is offering 15,000 scholarships ranging from INR 75,000 to INR1,25,000 per year for Class 9-12 meritorious OBC/DNT/EBC students. Applicants must note that the selection of the candidates will be based on a Computer Based Test (CBT). The ministry opened the application window on July 27, 2022, and the application process will go until August 26, 2022. Meanwhile, the correction window will be open from August 27, 2022, to August 31, 2022. The government launched PMYASASVI Scheme for students from OBC, EBC and Nomadic tribes categories.
According to the official notification, admit cards for the computer based test will be displayed from September 5, 2022. The examination will be conducted on September 11, 2022 (Sunday).
Students studying in Class 9 and 10 will be entitled to INR 75,000 per annum and Class 11 & 12 students will get INR 1,25,000 per annum covering school/ hostel fees.
Documents required PMYASASVI Scheme
Students applying for PMYASASVI Scheme should have a valid functional mobile number, Aadhar Number (UID), Aadhar Linked Bank Account, Income Certificate and Caste Certificate.
PMYASASVI Scheme Eligibility Criteria
- Other Backward Class (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and De-Notified, Nomadic & Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT).
- Parents’ / Guardians’ annual income not more than INR 2.50 Lakh.
- Studying in a top class school (list available at https://yet.nta.ac.in) in class 9 or 11.
There are five schemes already functional for students of these categories. These five older schemes are Pre-Matric Scholarship Yojana, Post-Matric Scholarship Yojana, Top Class Education for Schools, Top Class Education for Colleges, and Hostel Development Yojana. These five existing schemes have been repackaged under the `PM Yashasvi' scheme albeit with certain improvements.
Under the 'PM Yashasvi' Scheme, the central government plans to spend INR 3,950 crore on students from the OBC, EBC and Nomadic tribe categories and for developing hostels for them in the next four years. The scheme has been implemented from 2022-23 to 2025-26. 60% of the fund budget will be borne by the Central government and 40% will be taken care of by the state government.
