President Murmu inaugurates IIIT Dharwad

The foundation stone for IIIT Dharwad was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad in Karnataka. The foundation stone for IIIT Dharwad was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.  

While inaugurating the campus, Murmu said, “PM Modi Ji laid the foundation stone in 2019 and today the permanent campus is ready. It is being named as ‘Jnana Vikasa’ campus. There is vikas (development) within ‘Jnan’ (knowledge). India should be made a vishwa guru for which knowledge has to be developed. IIIT has a conducive atmosphere for that. Let the students of this campus progress and reach heights by working for the country.”  

Institute in line with NEP 2020

“The institution is going to produce skilled youth and make them experts in information technology to address the challenges before us. With integration of courses such as computer science, electronics, artificial intelligence, data science, it will provide great technical prowess to the nation,” Murmu said and added that the institute is in line with the New Education Policy 2020 that stresses on the importance of technical education. 

On the occasion, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said IIIT Dharwad should become the number one institute in the country and students should study hard. Union Minister for Coal, Mining Pralhad Joshi said Modi was taking updates on the progress of IIIT regularly. The aim was to complete the work in five years, but it is being inaugurated in three years.  

IIIT Dharwad was established in a public-private partnership by the Education Ministry, the state government and industry partner Keonics under an Act of Parliament.
