Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate two Ayurveda institutions tomorrow virtually
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating ITRA Jamnagar and NIA Jaipur tomorrow on Ayurveda Day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Ayurveda Day 2020 tomorrow; i.e. November 13, will inaugurate the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) at Jamnagar and National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) at Jaipur virtually. It is expected that these institutions will play global leadership roles in the growth and development of Ayurveda.
Every year, Ayurveda Day is observed on the day of Dhanwantri Jayanti. Hence, this year, Ayurveda Day will be celebrated on November 13. The nation has been commemorating the day since 2016. The day is observed to re-dedicate to the profession of Ayurveda and society. This year’s Ayurveda Day celebrations will focus on the potential role of Ayurveda in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In September, the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill 2020 was passed by Rajya Sabha. The Bill was earlier passed in Lok Sabha on 19th March, 2020. This paved the way to establish a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic institution called the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) at Jamnagar, Gujarat, and will confer the status of Institution of National Importance (INI) to it.
The ITRA is sought to be established by conglomerating the presently existing Ayurveda institutes at Gujarat Ayurved University campus Jamnagar. This is a cluster of highly reputed institutions, namely, (a) Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, (b) Shree GulabKunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, and (c) Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical sciences, (d) MaharshiPatanjali Institute for Yoga Naturopathy Education & Research (to be made part of the Department of Swasthvritta of the proposed ITRA). These institutions had come up over the past many decades, and together made a unique family of Ayurveda institutions existing in close proximity.
Dedication to the nation of ITRA, Jamnagar as an Institution of National Importance and NIA, Jaipur as an Institution Deemed to be University is being considered as a historic step not just for the modernisation of Ayurveda Education, but in the evolution of traditional medicine itself.
This initiative will provide the institutions the autonomy to upgrade the standard of Ayurveda education, design appropriate courses as per emerging demand and excel in modern research to generate more evidence.
