Punjab: INR 13 lakh disparity in MBBS fee creates confusion among medical students
MBBS tuition fees announced by the Punjab government and private medical college AIMSR have shown a disparity of INR 13 lakh which created confusion among the medical aspirants in the state.
A lot of confusion was created among the medical aspirants of Punjab when the fee structure for MBBS course announced by the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR) had a difference of INR 13 lakh.
DMER and BFUHS had announced the fee for the MBBS course at AIMSR as INR 50.47 lakh and AIMSR has mentioned INR 63.93 lakh in its prospectus.
As per the DMER notification, the first year tuition fee would be INR 9.45 lakh, followed by a 10% increase every subsequent year (total INR 50.47 lakh). AIMSR has declared the first year fee INR 11.90 lakh followed by a 10% increase every subsequent year making it INR 63,93,930.
BFUHS has been conducting counselling for MBBS admission to nine medical colleges in the state including AIMSR. The first list of the candidates selected for the MBBS course for the academic session 2021 through counselling by BFUHS will be released today, February 1, 2022.
The AIMSR authorities have said that they have challenged the fee structure announced by DMER in the High Court. However, the management has also said that the fee will depend on the final verdict of the court in this regard.
Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, said, “The university will charge Rs 9.45 lakh as a tuition fee for every admission at the AIMSR as per the directions and notification of the state government,” as reported by Tribune India.
