Rajya Sabha internship: Graduate, postgraduate students eligible to apply

As a part of Rajya Sabha Research and Study (RSRS) scheme, the internship is being offered to students. As a monthly stipend, overall Rs 10, 000 per month will be paid to interns. Overall 10 internships will be given.

To acquaint students with the working of the Indian Parliament, Rajya Sabha is offering them an opportunity to intern with Rajya Sabha. As a part of Rajya Sabha Research and Study (RSRS) scheme, the internship is being offered to students. Those pursuing graduation or post-graduation in any discipline can apply to the student engagement internship opportunity. The internship will be conducted during summer vacation and will be of two months duration. As a monthly stipend, overall Rs 10, 000 per month will be paid to interns. Overall 10 internships will be given.

The initiative was commenced in the year 2009 with the aim of encouraging research on various facets of parliamentary democracy in India. According to an official statement, the broad aim of the initiative was to encourage research/comparative/empirical study of the operation of Parliament and other democratic institutions and assess their offerings to the country’s socio-economic transformation; and to make sure the application of the research study of the operation of Parliament.

Apart from this, the Rajya Sabha also provides fellowships. Past members of parliament/state legislatures and past officers of parliament/state legislature secretariats are also for the fellowship together with scholars who have the necessary educational qualification/experience for going through the study in line with the aim of the initiative. The duration of the Fellowship is 18 months. The fellows are authorised to get aid of Rs 8 lakhs plus Rs.50,000 as contingency aid. On or before March 31, students can apply for the internship. Aspiring candidates can send their application to Joint secretary of Rajya Sabha secretariat.
