CDS 2 2022 Answer Key: UPSC CDS Paper Analysis, Answer Key, Marking Scheme & Question Paper

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release CDS 1 notification 2023 on December 21, 2022. The application form for CDS 1 2023 will be available from December 21, 2022 to January 10, 2023. CDS 1 2023 exam will be conducted on April 16. CDS 2 2023 notification will be released on May 17, 2023. The application form will be available from May 17 to June 6, 2023.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is conducting the Combined Defence Service Examination (CDS 2) at various centres across the country on September 4, 2022. 

Shiksha visited one of the CDS exam centres to gather the feedback of students regarding the difficulty level of the English and GK paper asked today in the CDS 2 examination.Check below the reviews shared by the students. 

Deeraj Chauhan, "The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate to difficult. In GK, maximum questions were asked from current affairs and Geography. In Current Affairs mostly questions were asked from international events."

Aman Kumar said, "The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. Mostly questions were asked from current affairs. There were also questions from History, Geography, etc. In English, there were questions on Comprehension. There were no questions from idioms."

Saurav said, "The English paper was easy while I found the GK paper to be tough. In GK, mostly questions were asked from Polity, Current Affairs and Economics. Current affairs questions were based on recent events that took place in 2021 and 2022."

Sumit said, "The English paper was lengthy as well as time consuming and the GK paper was moderate. Current Affairs questions were based on the latest events. Maximum questions were asked from Biology and History."

CDS 2 English exam is over, and several institutes have released their unofficial answer key. As per students' reaction, the English paper pattern is a bit changed. So, some said that the paper was moderate to difficult, and for some it was moderate. The Mix reaction was there.

The difficulty level of the CDS 2 paper was moderate to difficult, as per the students' reactions. GK questions were asked from international events. English pattern changed, last year there were 10 questions each for synonyms and antonyms. However, this year,there were 5 questions on synonyms and no questions were asked from idioms and antonyms. Word meanings were introduced.

UPSC CDS 2 result 2022 is expected to be announced in October 2022 by UPSC. The result will be made available in PDF form on the official website. CDS result PDF displays the roll numbers of qualified candidates. 

The GK paper of CDS 2 2022 will get over in sometime. The exam for this paper started at 12 pm. 

Women candidates can apply for OTA post. The age limit for girls should 19 to 25 years.

IMA: Candidates for IMA should be unmarried and must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1999, and not later than July 1, 2004.

INA: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 1999, and not later than July 1, 2004, can apply for INA.

AFA: To apply for AFA, the age of candidates should be between 20 and 24 years. They must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1999, and not later than July 1, 2003. The upper age limit of candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed upto 26 yrs (i,e born not earlier than July 2, 1997, and not later than July 1, 2003).

OTA (SSC Course for men): To apply for the OTA course (SSC Men), candidates must be unmarried and must have born not earlier than July 2, 1998, and not later than July 1, 2004.

OTA (SSC Women Non-Technical Course): Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees who have not remarried are eligible to apply. They must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1998, and not later than July 1, 2004.

CDS Salary of Officers during the training period is INR 56,100 per month for Army, Navy, and Air Force. The rank-wise salary is given below:

The final merit list of CDS 2022 will be released on the basis of performance of candidates in written CDS exam, SSB interview, and medical examination. Candidates who qualify in the CDS 2022 written exam will be called for an SSB interview and medical examination. After qualifying in all these stages they will be recruited to the vacant posts as released by UPSC for the Combined Defense Services examination.

Combined Defence Services Examination, commonly known as CDS, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The exam is held twice a year, usually in February and September. Every year, a large number of candidates appear for the national-level defence entrance examination. The selection of candidates is based on the written exam followed by SSB Interview for intelligence and personality test. 

The SSB Interview procedure consists of two stages: I and II. Stage I of SSB Interview comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT) and Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conference.

After clearing written examination of CDS, candidate has to go for an SSB Interview for intelligence and personality test.

CDS 2 2022 cut off will be released in May 2023 tentatively. UPSC releases CDS Cut off for the written exam and final selection after the completion of the recruitment process. CDS cutoff for the written exam is calculated based on the minimum qualifying marks in each subject and minimum aggregate marks of the last qualified candidate.

The final CDS cutoff is decided based on the marks of the last recommended candidate. The minimum qualifying for each subject is 20 percent. Candidates need to secure separate qualifying marks in the written exam and SSB Interview. On the basis of CDS cutoff, candidates are selected for Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA). Candidates are required to secure the cut off marks separately in the written exam and SSB interview to be considered for final selection.

The test paper for admission to OTA comprises two sections: English and General Knowledge. The total exam duration for IMA, INA, and AFA is six hours (each section is for two hours) while it is four hours (each section is for two hours) for OTA. Total marks of the test for IMA, INA, and AFA are 300, while it is 200 for OTA. The test paper consists of objective-type questions only. The standard of the topics in the CDS syllabus for Elementary Mathematics is of Class 10 level. The standard of papers for other subjects is of graduation level.

Candidates need to keep in mind the following points while marking answers in the answer sheet:

• Write with black ball pen the centre and subject followed by test booklet series (in bracket), subject code and roll number at the appropriate space provided on the answer sheet at the top
• Also encode the booklet series (A, B, C, or D as the case may be), subject code and roll number in the circles provided for the purpose in the answer sheet.
• In case the booklet series is not printed on the test booklet or answer sheet is un-numbered, report the same to the invigilator and get the test booklet/answer sheet replaced
• Do not write name or anything other than the specific items of information asked for, on the answer sheet/test booklet/sheet for rough work
• Use black ball pen to darken the circles in the answer sheet

Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers. There are four alternatives for the answer to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate. One third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty. If a candidate given more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be same penalty as above for that question. If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

Candidates who are appearing today (September 4, 2022) for the CDS 2 Exam, the English paper, started for IMA, INA, and AFA at 9 a.m. and will be there till 11 a.m. The English paper timing for OTA is also 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. only.

A candidate will definitely save time by solving the simple questions in the CDS 2 Exam first. Don't get carried away with the complicated questions in the GK and Numerical Ability Section. This will require some time and you will not get enough time to attempt the complete question paper.

Candidates who will not be able to reach the CDS 2 Examination Centre as per the scheduled time will not be allowed to give the exam.

A good quality black ballpoint pen for marking responses on the CDS 2 answer sheet, a transparent water bottle and sanitiser in a transparent bottle are allowed to be taken inside the exam centre.
