Civil Services Exam 2018: 485 out of 812 candidates with Hindi medium clear the exam, says govt
Of the total 812 recommended candidates, 485 candidates chose Hindi and the rest had opted for other regional languages as their mother tongue.
According to the information provided by the government, 485 candidates who had chosen Hindi as mother tongue have cleared the civil services examination in the year 2018. On the basis of the test conducted in 2018, a total of 812 candidates were recommended for central civil services. Of these, 485 candidates chose Hindi and the rest had opted for other regional languages as their mother tongue.
About civil services examination
The civil services examination is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to select officers of Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), etc.
The Civil Services examination is conducted in three stages- preliminary, mains and interview.
Year-wise data of students who select Hindi
According to data given by Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, “1,056 candidates were recommended for different services of whom 633 had chosen Hindi as their mother tongue in the year 2017.
In 2016, 664 out of the total 1,209 candidates selected in the civil services exam had Hindi as their mother tongue.
In the year 2015, 643 had claimed Hindi as their mother tongue as against 743 such candidates who were selected in the 2014 test.
A total of 1,363 and 1,164 candidates were recommended in the civil services examination in the year 2014 and 2015, respectively.
"We strive to have a workforce which is gender balance. Women candidates are encouraged to participate and apply in civil services. For this, they are exempted from payment of examination fee," the minister added.
Further, relaxation of age up to 35 years (up to 40 years for members of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes) has been provided to divorced women, widows, and women who are separated from their husbands who are not re-married for employment to Group 'C' and erstwhile Group 'D' posts that already exist. Relaxation also exists for Group 'A' and Group 'B' posts, except where recruitment is made through open competitive examination.
