SBI Recruitment: Dinesh Khara, the chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) announced plans to hire 12,000 probationary officers and associates in fiscal year 2025, with 85% expected to be engineering graduates. he emphasised that this prevalence of engineers reflects the growing role of technology in banking rather than any bias in the recruitment process.
He also noted recent regulatory measures by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as a factor in the increasing importance of tech expertise in the banking sector. As per media reports, he said, “This development coincides with the banking industry’s heightened reliance on technology to enhance customer engagement, a trend observed amidst challenges faced by certain players in adapting to technological advancements”.
To be Placed in Business Roles After Training
After training more than 3,000 probationary officers and over 8,000 associates in basic banking principles, they will be placed in various business roles across the organisation, announced SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara. He stressed the importance of all staff members keeping pace with technological advancements, highlighting the bank's management of substantial transaction volumes that require tech-savviness. Khara emphasized the critical role of technology in modern banking, asserting that it cannot be overlooked. He also noted that the bank consistently receives regulatory guidance concerning technological practices.

Khara said, pointing out that the bank handles a huge volume of transactions, and the same has to go through. "Technology is very important, and none of us can ignore it." This development coincides with the banking sector's growing reliance on technology as it seeks innovative ways to engage customers. At the same time, some institutions are facing challenges in adapting to these technological advancements.
