Mystory@Greeshma Mariya Sebastian: How I chose my course and college

By the end of my class 10^th, I was pretty sure that I will not pursue a career in Medicine. Since I loved Maths, Physics and Chemistry, I chose Computer Science group. After XII, I was totally confused about which college should I join andwhat course do I take up. I attended several educational fairs along with my friends. I wanted to make sure that my choice doesnot go wrong.

Then came my XIIth result. Since I had good marks everyone wanted me to take a better course than fashion designing. But my interest and enthusiasm for fashion remained the same. My parents were my greatest support. I attended an educational fair where I saw The Tips Global Institute’s stall. Thereafter, they contacted me and I went to see the college. I was really interested seeing the infrastructure and knowing about the dual degree course offered by the institute. I was really happy to know that I will also get an MBA degree on completion of the Integrated Sandwich course. This attraction made me choose The TipsGlobal Institute, Coimbatore for MSc (5yr Integrated) in Fashion Design.

How I cracked college admission

I had to appear for an entrance exam in TipsGlobal Institute. It was based on basic English, Mathematics and mental ability. After the exam there was a personal interview where they asked about my personal interests, reason for choosing to study fashion design, etc. The higher officials of the college interviewed me and approved of my fitment for the course. I did not take any coaching classes to prepare for this entrance exam. I went there without any preparation but I cracked it. Since I thought I had found the best college to shape my career I didn’t try for any other colleges. And after joining the college I felt that I was right.

My college experience

The college is not located in the central city but that is the greatest advantage as the ambience is pollution free and very peaceful creating an atmosphere for learning. The college provides the best food and quality infrastructure to its students.

Since I joined this college out of my personal interest I am very happy that I found a perfect career for myself. My college time is spent in regular classes. We learn how to sketch and how to stitch. It is very interesting to be in college every day. There is a subject named Fashion Forecasting. I really like this subject and it is really interesting to work on. Finding inspiration and key elements, working on it, making new sketches is just amazing.  

I am a part of the dance club in my college. I love contemporary dance and hip hop. There are once a week club activities where we can join any one of them. There are several fests which happen in our college where we can showcase our talents.

If given a chance, I’d want to become a professional dancer in the film industry. As a person I changed a lot after joining this college. I learnt to stay awake till morning and do my assignments. I learnt to manage both academics and extra-curricular activities together. I learnt to adjust to almost every changein life. I’m from Kerala and initially I found it really difficult and painful to adjust to changes after joining college. There were lot of changes in my life after joining this college. But later on I was able to adjust and now I can survive in any situation anywhere in the world.
