UPPSC to Implement Handwriting Verification for Main Exam Candidates

UPPSC 2024: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) will now require candidates appearing for the main exam to submit handwriting samples for future verification. If they claim their answer sheet was swapped, the submitted handwriting sample can be used to verify their claim.

According to reports, in upcoming exams, candidates will be required to write one or two lines on the hard copy of their application after completing the online application process. This will help verify handwriting if anyone claims their answer sheet has been swapped. The commission will also seek assistance from handwriting experts for verification.

Background and Allegations

After Shravan Pandey, the candidate who alleged copy swapping in the PCS-J Main Exam 2022, filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court claiming his copy was swapped, a decision was made. It was discovered that the swap occurred due to incorrect coding, affecting 50 copies. The issue escalated to the high court, prompting the commission to suspend three staff members, while action against two others is pending approval.

UPPSC has also decided to get 100% copies cross-checked in the main exam. According to the commission's sources, till now the examiners used to check the copies and return them after adding marks. Now the examiners will also check each other's copies. For example, if two examiners are given 25 copies each, then after their evaluation both the examiners will exchange their copies for re-evaluation.

Handwriting Samples To Be Submitted for Recruitment Exams

Handwriting samples will now be required for all recruitment exams, including PCS, PCS-J, State Agriculture Service, and Review Officer (RO)/Assistant Review Officer (ARO), encompassing preliminary and main examinations. Candidates who pass the preliminary stage must submit their handwriting samples upon entering the main exam phase.
