IAS prelims 2022 exam was conducted on June 5 across the nation in offline mode. IAS Prelims General Studies paper was conducted in the first session from 09.30 onwards. The candidates who appeared in the IAS exam 2022 shared their inputs regarding the General Studies question paper. The General Studies paper was a balanced paper, each section had its say in the paper. UPSC has tried a new style of answer options in the History questions. It is most likely that UPSC will give these types of answer options for all the questions in the coming time. As per the inputs given by the candidates who appeared in the IAS prelims 2022 exam, the General Studies Paper-I (GS) was moderate to difficult. The paper was evenly balanced and there was a good distribution of questions from each section of the General Studies syllabus. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) surprised the candidates with the new answer options asked in 4 to 5 questions. The options were so designed that there was no scope for even intelligent guess. The questions on international relations were comparatively higher in number in the GS paper. These new answer options for the IAS prelims 2022 do not ask which option is correct rather they asked how many options are correct in the given pairs. This requires a deep understanding of the options and the knowledge of all the answer options. For Example:

These types of questions demand knowledge of all the options and the elimination method is very difficult to implement in these types of answer options.

UPSC conducted the IAS prelims 2022 exam on June 5 at 77 exam centres (cities) across the nation. IAS prelims 2022 exam is a Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) type exam. The candidates need to read the question, read the answer, decide on the right answer and mark the answer in the OMR sheet provided by the Commission.

These numbers are tentative as there is a number of questions overlapping in different sections.

IAS Prelims CSAT 2022 Analysis

The second paper on IAS was conducted in the second session. The candidates who appeared in the second paper shared their experiences with Shiksha.com. The paper was easy to qualify. The candidates shared that it was easy to qualify and score the minimum required 33 per cent in the second paper. The paper was evenly balanced. The overall IAS CSAT 2022 paper was easy to moderate and the questions from Maths and Reasoning section were easy and doable. The comprehension questions were of two types. The long version comprehensions were easy and doable but the short comprehensions were difficult to answer because they were open-ended and it was difficult to draw a clear inference from the given text.

Communication and decision making questions were at par with the previous year's questions. Most of the candidates shared that it was easy to score 33 percent marks in the CSAT paper 2022.

IAS Prelims 2022 Expected cutoff

It is very difficult to predict the IAS prelims cutoff because the number of vacancies is higher this year but the difficulty level of the paper is at par with the last year. As per the inputs received from the candidates, the IAS prelims 2022 cutoff is expected to increase. It will be around 85 to 95 marks out of 200.

IAS prelims exam is a psychological exam where the answer options are so designed that they create confusion in the mind of the candidates. Only those candidates can answer the questions who have crystal clear knowledge of the concept and topic.
