UPSC To Conduct IRMS Exam 2023 Separately from Civil Service Exam. See Details Here
UPSC will hold a separate exam for Indian Railway Management Service(IRMS) from 2023. IRMS Exam 2023 will have three-stage exam process where the candidates will be required to appear in the Civil Service Preliminary Exam(UPSC Prelims) 2023. The candidates should note that UPSC Civil Service Exam 2022 was the first occasion when 150 IRMS vacancies were included in the recruitment process of Civil Service exam.
The IRMS was constituted in 2022 only and the Ministry of Personnel release a notification regarding its recruitment through the Civil Service Examination 2022 on February 17.

IRMS Exam 2023: Stages of Examination
The Ministry of Railway in its official press release informed that the separate IRMS exam will have the following stages:
- Prelims Exam (Qualifying Only)
- Main Exam (written) - 500 Marks
- Main Exam (Interview) - 100 Marks
To limit the number of candidates in the IRMS main(written) exam, all eligible candidates will be required to appear in the Civil Service Prelims Exam (UPSC Prelims) exam. The candidates will be screened for the IRMS exam and selected candidates will be called for the IRMS main (written) exam.
The IRMS Main (written) exam will be followed by the interview stage.
IRMS Main Exam Pattern
There will be four papers in the IRMS main (written) exam. The four papers and its marks are distributed in the following way:

The candidates who clear the written exam will be called for a Personality Test of 100 marks at the UPSC office premise (Dholpur House).
IRMSE 2023: List of Optional Subjects
The notice also mentions the list of optional subjects for the IRMS main (written) exam. The optional subjects for the IRMS are:
- Civil Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering,
- Electrical Engineering
- Commerce and Accountancy.
The syllabi for the aforesaid qualifying papers and optional subjects will be the same as those for the Civil Services Examination (CSE).
IRMS Exam 2023 Eligibility
Degree in Engineering / Degree in Commerce/ Chartered Accountancy, from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
The common candidates of the Civil Services (Main) Examination and IRMS (Main) Examination may opt for any of the aforesaid optional subjects for both these examinations or choose separate optional subjects for these Examinations (one for the CSE (Main) and one for the IRMSE (Main) as per the schemes of these two examinations).
The language medium and scripts for the qualifying papers and optional subjects (for question papers and writing answers) will be the same as those for the CSE (Main) Examination.
IRMSE 2023 Vacancies
There will be 150 vacancies in the IRMS exam 2023 just like this year.
IRMSE 2023 Notification Date
IRMSE 2023 notification will follow the same schedule as notified for Civil Service Exam 2023.
