Satellite project by Karnataka government school students renamed after late Kannada actor

While addressing during the National Science Day function held at the government pre-university college at Malleshwaram, Karnataka Science and Technology Minister Ashwatha Narayana made the announcement regarding the renaming of the project.

All set to launch in September 2022, the 'satellite design and launching project' by government school students has been renamed as the 'Puneeth Rajkumar Student Satellite Project' after the late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar who died a few months back. While addressing during the National Science Day function held at the government pre-university college at Malleshwaram, Karnataka Science and Technology Minister Ashwatha Narayana made the announcement regarding the renaming of the project.

KSTePS and ITCA collaborate by signing MoU

During the function, the Karnataka Science & Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) and the Indian Technological Congress Association (ITCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in order to execute the project. This satellite is among the 75 satellites that are going to be launched in celebration of 75 years of independence.

The minister further added, "The ground station of the project will be set up at the premises of the college and 100 students of 20 government schools have been selected based on performances in various competitions and tests."

About ‘Puneeth Rajkumar Student Satellite Project’

The minister informed that the weight of the satellite is going be 1.5 kilograms. He further shared about the advancement of the technology and how it helped in reducing the cost of production and the weight of satellites. He further stated that this initiative will include all introduction programmes, both online and offline, hands-on learning, and teaching models in Kannada and English. Earlier, a handbook on satellite projects was released, as well as the distribution of science experiment kits for government schools was also launched. "In addition, the web links of required content will be provided to students and classes related this will commence from April 22," he added.
