Schools, colleges shut amid heavy rains: With red and orange alerts in various areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka state, schools and colleges have ordered closure considering the safety of students and staff members. Due to continuous rain, roads have been submerged, water has started entering homes. Shutting of schools and colleges has been announced. With the IMD issuing a red alert in the Udupi and Kodagu districts of Karnataka amid heavy showers on Thursday, authorities announced the closure of schools and colleges. Tourists and fisherfolk have been advised to steer clear of beaches and sea areas.
Earlier, The meteorological department had declared an orange alert in DK for the next two days. Udupi DC also declared that all private and government colleges and schools in the district will remain closed in the district on Wednesday.
The schools have been closed considering the dangerous situation amid rains. The incessant rains in the two coastal districts have resulted in landslides and damage to houses. Sea erosion was reported in many parts including Ullal in DK and Kundapur and Maravanthe beaches in the Udupi district. Roads are flooded with rainwater causing traffic disruption at several places.
The Kasaragod administration had also declared a holiday on Wednesday, for all schools and anganwadi schools. The heavy rains have caused huge damage to houses and streets of Karnataka districts and it is advised that all remain safe and inside their premises and not roam out.
