Reopening of schools across the country is taking place following strict COVID-19 SOPs. According to the announcements made by various education ministers and other state authorities, schools in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Rajasthan will reopen from February 1.
Schools reopening 2022: Amid the ongoing pandemic situation coming under control, various state governments have announced the reopening of schools considering the academic loss students have faced so far. Reopening of schools across the country is taking place following strict COVID-19 SOPs. According to the announcements made by various education ministers and other state authorities, schools in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Rajasthan will reopen from February 1.

Goa School Reopening
According to the official order released by the government of Goa, all private and public schools in the state are allowed to commence offline classes from February 21. The government also stated that wearing school uniforms is not mandatory for students. If required, the school timing will also be reduced in order to help students adjust in the new normal.
West Bengal School Reopening
The West Bengal government has decided to reopen primary and upper primary schools from February 16. The state reopened schools for Classes 8 to 12 on February 3, while open-air learning sessions for students up to Class 7 started four days later under a project named 'Paray Shikshalay' (education centre at your locality).
While making the announcement regarding the school reopening and relaxation of COVID-19 guidelines, the West Bengal government said, “A separate standard operating procedure will be issued by School Education Department in this regard."
Rajasthan School Reopening
The government of Rajasthan has announced the reopening of schools up to Class 5 in private and government schools in urban areas of the state from February 16. However, attendance is not mandatory. Schools have been asked to conduct classes via both online and offline mode. Students still have the option of online education. The government has also stated that students will only be allowed to attend offline classes after the written consent of their parents. Earlier, Rajasthan reopened schools for up to Class 12 on February 1.
Chandigarh School Reopening
Chandigarh has reopened schools and coaching institutions from February 14, 2022. According to the guidelines issued, the institutions will be functioning at full capacity in the offline mode and classes will be conducted in the hybrid mode as students will be allowed to choose between offline and online classes.
Haryana School Reopening
While the decision to commence offline classes for students of Classes 10 to 12 from February 1 was taken earlier. Haryana government has now announced its decision to begin school physically for Class 1 to 9 students from February 10. Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal through his official Twitter handle informed, "In Haryana, schools will be opened for Classes 1 to 9 from February 10. COVID-19 appropriate behavior will be strictly followed in the classrooms. Parents who want to send their children to school can send. Online classes will also continue."
Uttar Pradesh School Reopening
UP School Reopening: According to the orders released by the government of Uttar Pradesh, schools for Nursery students, Classes 1-12, Colleges and all other educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh are allowed to reopen for offline classes from February 14. The decision is taken amid the declining cases of the novel coronavirus. The government announced various relaxations in COVID-19 curbs on February 11, considering a decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
All educational institutions from Nursery/Class 1 will remain open from February 14 until the next order following COVID-19 guidelines, the government order said.
Gujarat School Reopening
Schools in Gujarat for Class 1 to 9 are all set to reopen today, February 7, 2022. According to an official circular issued by the education department, the government of Gujarat decided to reopen schools in the state considering the COVID-19 situation in the region. Offline classes will be conducted following SOPs issued by the government earlier.
Delhi School Reopening
Delhi schools and colleges started reopening on February 7. However, the classes between Nursery and Class 8 will reopen from February 14.
The Delhi government had recommended the reopening of schools in the DDMA meeting on January 27. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also advocated for the reopening of schools and colleges saying a generation of children will be left behind if schools are not opened now.
Shillong School Reopening
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has announced the government’s decision to reopen schools for Classes 1 to 5 from February 14. The teaching process via offline mode for Classes 6 to12 and in colleges and universities had already begun.
Bihar School Reopening
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on February 6, 2022, announced the government's decision regarding reopening. The minister informed that the state government has decided to allow schools, colleges and coaching institutes to reopen for physical classes. The reopening will take place following the improved COVID-19 situation in the state. Schools can reopen with 50 per cent strength for up to Class 8 and for Class 9 and above, they can open with full capacity. Colleges and coaching institutes have also been allowed to resume offline classes with 100 per cent strength.
Odisha School Reopening
The government of Odisha has decided to reopen schools for Classes 8 to 10, colleges and universities in the state on February 7. Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra informed that the government took the decision considering the declining number of COVID-19 cases across the state. The minister further informed that for students of kindergarten to Class 7, schools in Odisha will reopen on February 14.
Punjab School Reopening
The government of Punjab has announced its decision to extend the closure of schools and colleges in the state by another week considering the ongoing pandemic situation in the state. According to the decision taken by the government, all educational institutions in the state will remain closed for physical lectures until February 8, 2022. This decision regarding the extension of the closure will be applicable to schools, colleges and all other educational institutions including coaching classes with exception of Medical and Nursing colleges that operate in the state.
Madhya Pradesh School Reopening
The Madhya Pradesh government had announced the reopening of schools for physical classes from today, i.e. February 1, with 50 per cent capacity. The go-ahead to reopen schools in the state following all COVID-19 protocols was given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after consultation with medical experts. On January 14, the state closed the schools and hostels for Classes 1 to 12 until January 31 in the wake of a surge in Covid cases.
Bangalore School Reopening
Schools in Bangalore are reopening from today, i.e. January 31. According to the decision taken, classes will be conducted following all COVID-19 guidelines in place. Earlier, State Education Minister BC Nagesh said that the decision on school reopening will be taken after taking the cabinet’s opinion regarding when Bangalore schools should be reopened and that a date would be decided after a meeting with the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee. On January 29, the decision to reopen the schools was taken.
Telangana School Reopening
The Telangana government has decided to reopen its schools from February 1. The state government on January 29 announced the reopening of all educational institutions. Education Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy has directed educational institutions to follow COVID-19 norms strictly amid the reopening.
Jharkhand School Reopening
Schools in Jharkhand will reopen for students of Classes 1 to 12 from February 1. The proposal has been sent to Chief Minister Hemant Soren to take the final decision. It is likely that the final announcement about the Jharkhand school reopening will be made on January 31, 2022.
Jharkhand Education Minister Jagannath Mahto said, "online calls are not successful at all. Government school children are also being affected. Many states are re-opening schools. Preparations are being made in the state to reopen schools in Jharkhand too.
Tamil Nadu School Reopening
The government of Tamil Nadu has decided to reopen schools and colleges in the state considering the academic loss that students are facing amid the closure. According to the official decision taken by the authorities, schools, colleges and universities in Tamil Nadu will be reopened from February 1. Students and parents must note that schools will be reopened for Classes 1 to 12. Meanwhile, the playschool, LKG and UKG will remain closed, the state government announced on Thursday, January 27.
Pune School Reopening
According to the announcement made by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, schools in Pune will reopen from February 1. Students of Classes 1 to 8 will be attending schools in Pune city and district for half of the regular timings. Whereas, offline teaching will be conducted for Classes 9 to 10 students at regular timings. However, parental consent is required for students to attend physical classes.
Tripura School Reopening
Tripura schools for students from pre-primary to Class 12 will reopen from January 31, 2022. The offline classes would take place following strict COVID-19 restrictions.
