Schools shut amid heavy rainfall in Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued an orange alert regarding heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightening for western Uttar Pradesh areas and asked authorities to stay alert for Monday.

Schools in Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, and Agra, among others, will remain shut on Monday due to heavy rain in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. All schools across boards, operating for Class 1 to 12, will remain closed for a day due to heavy rain lashes in the region.

Roads flooded, trees uprooted amid heavy rains

The national capital region has received continuous rain since Saturday afternoon, flooding roads and uprooting trees. So far, district authorities in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri, and Firozabad have ordered the closure of schools due to heavy rain.

"Due to excessive rain in the district and keeping in view the possibility of excessive rain, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has declared a holiday on October 10 [Monday] in government, semi-government aided, and unaided recognized schools of all the boards operating from class 1 to 12 of the district," a school official in Noida was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have also warned commuters to take care while driving, especially under flyovers, as many roads have been flooded. Delhi traffic official Twitter handle is sharing continuous alerts for people regarding rain affected areas and heavy traffic roads due to rain.
