Bengaluru's Mount Carmel College opens admissions for boys into all courses

As part of the diamond jubilee celebration, Bengaluru's Mount Carmel College (all girl autonomous institute) has opened its doors for male students also and said that all MCC programs including undergraduate and postgraduate are open to boys also.

"Mount Carmel College (Autonomous), with a 75-year legacy of imparting quality, holistic education welcomes boys and girls for all its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Apply Now," reads the official statement.

“The college will academically undergo a lot of changes, and everything is not going to be transitioned overnight. We decided to include boys in all courses, and they can even apply from the upcoming academic year," added MCC.

“The management decided to open admission for boys to support the institution’s plans and ensure greater diversity on campus,” said Suma Singh, Registrar of Academics at Mount Carmel College, as reported by The Hindu.

This is not the first time the educational institution will offer admission for boys. In 2015, the college sought and received permission from the Bangalore University Academic Council to admit male students.

“In 2016, the management opened a couple of postgraduate programmes for male students. As of now, we have 19 boys on campus. Now, boys can apply to all the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes,” Ms. Singh said.

The college is reportedly aiming to get a deemed-to-be university status and the current move is to attain the status from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Speaking to Deccan Herald, MCC Principal George Lekha said, “We do not want to be a women-only college and want to bring diversity to the campus. People's mindsets also should change, and we will be inviting boys for admissions in all courses.”
