In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, it was mentioned that the CUCET will be conducted in 12 scheduled languages- Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi.
Minister of state for education Subhas Sarkar informed Rajya Sabha that the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in multiple languages. The government has declared that all national-level exams in the country will be held in scheduled languages.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, the Minister mentioned that the CUCET will be conducted in 12 scheduled languages- Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil ,Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi.
The NTA has until now conducted major competitive exams like NEET UG 2021 in Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi; JEE Main 2021 in Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, and Gujarati; All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) 2021 for Class 6 in Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu and Urdu.
Delhi University was expected to conduct the CUCET this year, however, due to the pandemic, it was not held. However, 12 central universities including Assam University in Silchar, Central University of Gujarat, Central University of Punjab, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Central University of Jharkhand and Central University of Kerala conducted the CUCET 2021.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed vice-chancellors of Central universities to take appropriate measures to conduct the CUCET exam which will be administered by NTA.
βAfter detailed deliberations, it was resolved that the common entrance for UG and PG may be conducted from the academic session 2022-23. For admissions to PhD, NET score will be used, wherever feasible,β the UGC letter stated.
