The CUET UG 2025 exams are expected to be held in May or June 2025. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the registration form and official notification soon at nta.ac.in. Once released, candidates will need to select the subjects they want to take the exam based on the course they want to study in the CUET participating university of their choice.

CUET UG subject mapping refers to selecting subjects based on the admission criteria for a specific undergraduate course at a university. Candidates must choose their subjects carefully by aligning them with the eligibility criteria specified by their preferred universities accepting CUET scores. Selecting incorrect subjects may lead to disqualification.

How to Select Subjects for CUET 2025?

Candidates seeking admission to UG courses through CUET UG 2025 exam must select the right subject combination to participate in the counselling process at their preferred university.

To make an informed decision on what subjects to select in the CUET registration form, candidates must follow the below steps:

  • Choose Your Course: Decide the UG course you want to pursue.
  • Check University Requirements: Visit university websites or official brochures and check the required subjects based on the selected UG course. The NTA website also lists official CUET subject combinations.
  • Select Subjects Accordingly: Choose subjects that align with university requirements.

CUET UG 2025 Major Changes in Subjects

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced significant changes to the subject selection criteria and the number of subjects available for the CUET UG 2025 exam. Candidates can now choose from:

  • 23 domain subjects (reduced from 29)
  • 13 languages (reduced from 33)
  • General Test (GAT)

A key update is that candidates can now opt for a subject even if they have not studied it in Class 12.

The deleted CUET subjects include:

  • Foreign Languages (French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese)
  • Domain Subjetcs (Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, Engineering Graphics)

Note: If a university’s subject mapping criteria include a deleted subject, candidates must select the General Test (GAT) to remain eligible for admission. For instance, if a university’s subject combination for BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) is Any one language and Entrepreneurship, candidates must also select General Test in the application form.

Q:   How many subjects can I choose for the CUET exam?

A:

From CUET UG 2025 onwards, candidates can now choose for five CUET subjects. Earlier, the subject choices were six. With the rediuction in number of CUET subjects, the choices have been reduced. Candidates can opt for five subjects from 23 domain subjects of any stream irrespective of subjects studied in class 12th. 

Q:   When can I apply for the CUET exam?

A:

National Testing Agency (NTA) will commence the CUET UG 2025 registrations at cuetug.ntaonline.in. Candidates desirous of taking admission to University/college through CUET must fill the application form before the deadline. On the release of the CUET notification important dates for CUET 2025 will be announced. CUET 2025 application process will be in online mode. Candidates will be required to fill the application form, upload documents and pay the application fee in online mode only. CUET is a gateway to more tahn 250 universities across India for its UG courses.

Q:   How do I apply for a college which requires CUET percentage even though am yet to give CUET?

A:

Candidates can apply for CUET score accepting colleges through CUET UG 2025 application form. While filling the application form, candidates will be required to enter the name of the preffered universities and courses in order of preference. On declaration of the CUET results, the scores will be shared with the unoversities for which candidate has applied. Basis on the score obtained candidate will be shortlisted for the applied course.

Important Guidelines for CUET 2025 Subject Selection

Candidates should keep the following points in mind while mapping their subjects for CUET 2025:

  • Select the Subjects Carefully: Choose subjects aligning with the course requirements of your target universities.
  • Check University Brochure: Review the university’s official brochure and confirm the required subject combination before finalizing the CUET subjects.
  • Fill the Application Form Carefully: Ensure that the subject selection is accurate to avoid errors.
  • Maximize Subject Options: Select the maximum number of subjects to keep your admission options open for multiple courses and universities and be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
  • Include General Test (GAT) for more Options: If you are unsure about meeting the eligibility criteria for your chosen university, select General Test as an alternative in case your score and/or eligibility does not meet the university’s requirements.
