Department Of Science & Technology India Secretary Abhay Karandikar visited the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), an autonomous institute of DST India.

"It was a pleasure to visit the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), an autonomous institute of @IndiaDST. The institute has developed a strong portfolio of medical devices and products across different laboratories of the Biomedical Technology (BMT) Wing," he said on X.

I, along with Dr. M Mohanty, Head of the Autonomous Institution Division of DST, visited the engineering labs, biology labs, the new hospital block, the biobank, and materials research labs, and interacted with the Director of SCTIMST, Dr. Sanjay Behari, as well as the senior scientists, he added.

They spoke enthusiastically about their medical research and the state-of-the-art medical facilities that are being developed. It was also interesting to witness the pre-surgical virtual reality demonstration used for diagnosis, treatment, and teaching. The innovative devices, like the Sri Chitra valve, and the translational research of the institute, are contributing to the Indian medical device industry, he further added.
