HEIs students must register on Academic Bank of Credits platform, says UGC Chairman

Academic Bank of Credits enables students mobility across Higher Education Institutions and helps in seamless integration of skills and experiences into a Credit Based system.

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, University Grants Commission has said that HEIs must ensure that all students are registered on Academic Bank of Credits platform.

"Higher educational institutions must ensure that every student in their institute is registered on the Academic Bank of Credits platform and that their credits and transcripts are uploaded," he tweeted.

NAD--Digi Locker is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) under the Digital India programme. Digi Locker aims at ‘Digital Empowerment of citizens by providing access to authentic digital documents to citizen’s digital document wallet. ABC--Academic Bank of Credits has been established on the lines of the National Academic. Depository (NAD), in the sense, NAD is the backbone of ABC, where the students' academic data are held and academic awards are stored (i.e. storehouse of academic awards). Despite the fact that ABC enables students to register or commence credit transfer, the final outcomes of credit redemption and issuance of certificates, as well as the compilation of award records.

Total number of ABC IDs created is 2.38 crore, total number of AIs (Universities, INIs) registered on ABC is 1629, total number of AIs that have uploaded credit data from 2021 to 2023 is 415. Unique students credit awards seeded with ABC ID is 11.75 lacs, total number of academic records with credit data mapped with ABC ID is 22.15 lacs.
