HPE Code Wars 2024 India Edition Organised with 'UN Sustainable Development Goals' Theme; Details Inside

Over 17,000 codes were submitted within 3 hours and 450-500 codes were evaluated in real time, on average, during HPE Code Wars 2024 India Edition. The competition witnessed participation from more than 19,600 schools. 

HPE Code Wars 2024

HPE Code Wars 2024 India Edition was conducted between February 15 to April 28, 2024. In the last 26 years, HPE CodeWars has become a phenomenon for students overseas. It is the fourth time in 2024 that Codingal is organising this event with HPE. This year the theme was UN Sustainable Development Goals.  

The India Edition of HPE Code Wars is conducted in two formats i.e. Hackathon and Code Battle. Students during Hackathon build apps, games, and websites that solve real-world problems. Whereas Code Battle is a competitive programming competition where children solve algorithmic problems using programming languages C, C++, Java, and Python. 

Over 17,000 Codes Were Submitted Within 3 Hours 

Students could see their rank on a live leaderboard throughout. During the event, over 17,000 codes were submitted by the students during a 3-hour timeline. At an average 450-500 codes were evaluated concurrently in real time. Further, the competition witnessed participation from more than 19,600 schools. 

Opportunity to Run Code Experiment

The top 3 rankers of the code battle and the winner of the hackathon win the opportunity to run code experiments on HPE’s SBC2 supercomputer aboard the International Space Station.

The following are the highlights of the code battle for complete reference:

  • Peaked at 700 concurrent code evaluations; average 450-500 concurrent code evaluations
  • Countries contributing to maximum participation- India > USA > Bangladesh
  • Indian cities contributing to maximum participation- Delhi > Lucknow > Bengaluru > Patna > Mumbai
  • Results
  • Winner- Kshitij Sodani (Grade 12); Going to attend MIT this year
  • First Runner Up- Sushil Raaja (Grade 12)
  • Second Runner Up- Pranshu Verma (Grade 10)

  • Winner- Laptop worth Rs. 40,000
  • First runner up- Monitor worth Rs. 30,000
  • Second runner up- Monitor worth Rs. 20,000
  • Ranks 4 to 10- Boat AirPods 
  • Ranks 11 to 30- Vouchers worth Rs. 1,000
  • Ranks 31 to 140- Vouchers worth Rs. 500

Highlights of Hackathon

  • The winning team comprises Grade 9 students from Nigeria and India. They built a website addressing SDG Goal 14, Life Below Water. Their website is commendable in covering all major utilities that a website can offer, namely, ecommerce (store), information (blogs), engagement (games and quizzes), and action (donations).
