A proctorial inquiry notice against 21 students, including the survivor, has been issued for obstructing the university's north gate, seeking action in the JNU harassment case that allegedly occurred on March 30.

JNU Protest

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued a proctorial inquiry notice against 21 students for protesting at the university's north gate. Students had been on indefinite strike at the campus gate against the alleged sexual harassment case since April 1.

The chief security officer of the university, on April 2, reported that protesters had allegedly obstructed the university's north gate causing difficulty for students, staff and residents in commuting.

Consequently, the chief proctor' office issued a proctorial notice to 21 students, including students' union president Dhananjay. The notice highlighted the accusation by the chief security officer against students for obstructing the university's main entrance gate.

As per the Chief Security Officer's statement, the university tried to contact JNUSU President Dhanajay asking him to convince protestors to clear the gate. The university further assured that they will issue an 'Out-of-bound' letter to two former students alleged in the harassment case.

However, the protestors demanded the release of order before concluding the protest, as reported by Edex.

On the contrary, protestors claim that proctorial inquiry notice to the victim is an attempt to 'intimidate' the alleged victim. The protestors further said that the JNU administration is trying to target the students instead of taking action against the alleged culprits.

What Had Happened?

On March 30, a JNU female student was allegedly sexually harassed. Two former students among four have been accused of sexual harassment. The complainant has gone on an indefinite strike at the university's main entrance gate accusing the administration for not taking action against the culprits.
